One of the most exciting things about Glowlish is that you don't have to pick just "English" — you pick which English. British, American, or Australian. But how do you know which track is right for you?
Why Your Accent Choice Matters
In Egypt's job market, accent matters more than many people realise. If you're applying to a call centre that serves UK customers, British English makes you more effective. Working in tech for a US company? American English is your edge. Each accent carries different cultural cues, vocabulary patterns, and communication styles.
The good news: all three accents will make you understood everywhere in the world. The difference is about which door you want to open first.
The British Track: RP and Modern British
Best for: UK-based companies, academic settings, European business, and anyone who wants the most widely-taught accent in Egypt.
British RP (Received Pronunciation) is sometimes called "BBC English." It's clear, widely respected, and used in most formal international contexts. Modern British is more relaxed and natural for everyday speech.
Vocabulary highlights: lift (elevator), flat (apartment), mobile (cell phone), brilliant (great)
Who should choose this: If you're targeting the European market, UK tourism, academic writing, or international banking and finance — British is your track.
The American Track: General American
Best for: BPO, call centres, US tech companies, media, and entertainment.
General American is the most neutral and widely understood accent globally — it's what you hear in most Hollywood films and US news broadcasts. For Teleperformance agents, AWS/Microsoft/Google job applicants, and anyone in the BPO sector, this is typically the most in-demand.
Vocabulary highlights: elevator, apartment, cell phone, awesome
Who should choose this: The American track is Glowlish's most popular — and for good reason. Egypt's BPO sector is enormous, and most global tech companies use American English as their default.
The Australian Track: Australian Standard
Best for: Australian companies, anyone targeting the Australian market, and candidates who want a unique edge.
Australian English is warm, direct, and increasingly in demand as Australian businesses expand into Egypt and the Middle East. It's less commonly taught, which means it can genuinely differentiate you.
Vocabulary highlights: arvo (afternoon), no worries, reckon (think), heaps (a lot)
Who should choose this: If you're in hospitality, tourism, or any sector with strong Australian business ties — or if you simply want to stand out.
Still Not Sure?
Here's a simple framework:
- Look at your dream job — what accent does that company use?
- Think about your industry — BPO/tech = American; academic/EU = British; unique/Australian = Australian
- Take our free level test — during the onboarding call, we'll help you decide based on your goals
The most important thing is to pick one and commit. Mixing accents slows your progress and confuses listeners. Choose your track, stay consistent, and let Glowlish guide the rest.
"The moment I committed to the American track, everything clicked. I wasn't trying to sound 'international' — I was targeting one specific accent. My clarity improved within weeks." — Sara M., Glowlish student
